Excursions and Local Attractions This place is located on the Italian Riviera between Sanremo and the French border, in a coastal resort near the marine Alps. On both sides of the Italian-French border you can visit many historical sites, ancient villages, luxuriant flora and places of art and culture where many famous artists had lived attracted by the beauty of the location. Big cities like Nice(France), Monaco, Sanremo, Genoa are easily reached. In Bordighera, Queen Margherita had her winter residence, now restaured as an Art Gallery. A long seafront, free of motortraffic and with a bike path, offers plenty of cafés and beaches; the English who lived here in the past had left the heritage of gardens, museums e.g.The Bicknell Institute, the English church (now a cultural center), the Handbury Gardens in Mortola etc. French artists as Monet and famous architect Charles Garnier also left their imprint on this town. We have a "giardino esotico" with rare cactus. This is the region of olive cultivation and fine wines. |
