York, England: Discover our 4-bedroomed house in a beautiful area of York, overlooking a golf course and a small lake. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the city centre but there are buses every 10 minutes from 60m away. We have a small private walled garden with seating and eating areas and a barbecue. Upstairs we've 3 big bedrooms, and on the next floor, a large guest suite with study/living room, bedroom and private bathroom. We love to show guests our city and countryside and introduce them to English culture

Teaching Qualifications and Experience
Ruth is currently working part time as a teacher of English with specialist tuition for learning difficulties at St Peter's School in York. She has an English degree (BA Gen,lower second)and several additional teaching qualifications (PGCE, ADAES, RSA dyslexia). She hopes to reduce her hours from July 2011 in order to concentrate on language students. Alan has taken early retirement from teaching. He also is a graduate with further teaching qualifications (BSc Maths, ARCS, PGCE). He now sees his job as hosting language students.
Hobbies and Interests
We have many interests and hobbies. Alan plays cricket and badminton and loves all sports. He also enjoys watching films, listening to music, cycling, reading, cooking, Ruth is involved in her local church, plays in a band, plays and teaches the card game Bridge, and likes swimming and badminton.
Excursions and Local Attractions
York has been voted top by Rough Guide users as the best place to visit in England. Mainly a medieval walled city, it has fine historical buildings from many periods, notably a castle and gothic cathedral, York Minster. It lies on 2 rivers and there are attractive riverside walks and green parks. As a tourist city, it has many interesting shops, pubs and restaurants and boasts a fine Georgian (18th Century) Theatre, 2 further theatres, a concert hall, some cinemas, 2 very modern universities and various gyms, sports centres and swimming baths.
It has fast train links to both London and Edinburgh (both 2 hours) as well as to other beautiful places. This makes it possible to visit much of England from day trips from York. We take people to fantastic places like the North York Moors, Brimham Rocks and Whitby seaside and fishing port, (7th place in survey) home of Dracula, steeped in history with narrow winding streets and its ruined abbey. People return to the area time after time.
