Teaching Qualifications and Experience
BSc Civil Engineering, Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, CELTA certificate.
TEFL 100 hour course. Lived and worked in Hong Kong for 19 years.
Teaching teenagers at summer school. We have experience with mature Brazilian, Austrian and French Homestay students - 30 hour tuition plus varied excursions.
My wife taught ESL in Hong Kong for 14 years. We have had Chinese students stay with us who have gone on to Oxford University and the LSE obtaining first class honours degrees, helped by learning English while staying with us.
Hobbies and Interests
Squash, Music, Football, Reading, writing short stories and lyrics (I am Member of CASH (the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong, guitar. Interested in Shakespeare and the English language.
Accommodation
We have two bedrooms that could be used by the student. One is a double en-suite with desk, the other will be either a single as shown or a double with shared bathroom facilities with access to desk.
Excursions and Local Attractions
Droitwich is 20 miles south of Birmingham and 8 miles north of Worcester. Excellent transport links to Birmingham and Worcester it is 10 minutes from junctions 5 and 6 of the M5. Local attractions - Historic Droitwich Spa (2 miles); Hanbury Hall (National Trust property)(3); Worcester (Cathedral, Commandery, Civil War)(8); County Museum at Hartlebury (8); Steam Railway and Safari Park -Kidderminster (11 miles); Canals at Stourport (10), Bourneville - Cadbury Factory (17); Merry Hill - vast shopping centre (20); Birmingham (20) (35 mins by train)- shopping (Bull Ring)- mmuseums galleries and restaurants; Black Country living Museum at Dudley as well as Dudley Zoo(20); Broadway - Cotswold village (25); Stratford on Avon (28); Warwick - Castle and Town (30); Cheltenham - Regency City (30). Longer excursions - Hay on Wye - Books (56); Tintern Abbey and Monmouth (60) - Bath (80) and Cardiff (90).
Birmingham Airport is 25 miles north of Droitwich via the M5 and M42.
