Local half-day excursions could include tours of Winchester, Romsey, Salisbury and Chawton (Jane Austen's house).
Also the New Forest, the South Coast and Stonehenge are accessible within half a day.
London is one hour from Winchester by train and I have extensive knowledge of London, having lived there for over 20 years.
Other excursions could include Oxford and Windsor (both one hour's drive away), and Bath (one and a half hours away by train)
