Fashion, textiles, architecture, music, theatre, cinema, arts and crafts, cultural heritage, walking and cooking. I visit Paris regularly and am translating the autobiography of an art critic and writer (b. 1925)from French to English.
Accommodation
Large (from 3.6m x 4.4m minimum), fully-carpeted, beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished, with central heating. Rooms are light and airy. Each room has a double bed (can be 2 singles), space for table and chairs, armchair or sofa. There are sash windows, with Venetian blinds and curtains.
Excursions and Local Attractions
Historic and cultural centres of Gloucester (famous for its docks and Cathedral),Bath, Cheltenham, Bristol and Cirencester for designer shopping, art, theatre, architecture, literature, science and music festivals. National Trust and English Heritage properties within easy driving distance. Stroud International Textiles Festival, Fringe Festival, Artist's Open Studios, Laurie Lee countryside (Slad), local breweries, newly-restored Stroudwater Canal and riverside walks, horse-riding and cycle tracks. Stroud also has an award-winning Farmer's Market, antiquarian books, craft and vintage clothing shops. WOMAD festival of World Music and Dance, in August is 30 minutes drive away, in the grounds of a stately home. Stroud has a very lively jazz, poetry and art scene as well as a superb Museum in the park, leisure centre for indoor and outdoor swimming, tennis courts and gymnasium. Members of the English Royal family live nearby and Highgrove can be visited by appointment.
