Excursions and Local Attractions
Sutton / Cill Fhionntáin is a scenic residential suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It is located about 12 kilometres from the city centre at the base of the Howth peninsula, and neighbours Howth, Baldoyle and Bayside.
At the centre of Sutton (Sutton Cross) is an isthmus connecting Howth (which used to be an island) to the mainland. The original village of Sutton was situated on the city-facing (south-western) side of Howth Head (present day Somali village) but the area is now centred on Sutton Cross where there are plenty of shops on one side with the Marine Hotel on the other.
Sutton is surrounded by many beaches and is a popular place for golf and dinghy sailing. The Burrow Beach is a beautiful place with its fine views of Ireland's Eye and Lambay island further up the coast. On a clear day the mountains of Mourne that 'sweep down to the sea' can be enjoyed.
Sutton is easily accessible from Dublin city using the main road to Howth, the DART suburban rail system.
